About me

An Introduction…

One of my favourite quotes in film is from the 1940 Charlie Chaplin classic “The Great Dictator”. The quote is as follows;

“Let’s fight for a world of reason. A world where science and progress will lead to all Men’s happiness!”

This quote perfectly encapsulates my attitude toward science. The scientific method and human ingenuity has heralded an age of discovery and innovation, the fruits of which have led to an unprecedented increase in human happiness and well-being. This is why science means so much to me, the scientific method is maybe the greatest single discovery of humanity. It’s the method through which all other innovations and discoveries are vetted. Due to this importance, I believe that everyone must be well-versed in the principles of the scientific method and everyone would do well to incorporate said method more into their daily lives. Hence the creation of this blog, I intend to use this blog to hone my own scientific skills and through the process of doing so further my own knowledge and, hopefully, yours as well.

But let’s not get ahead of myself, I’ve yet to introduce myself. I’m Elliott Atkinson, your personal myth-buster. I’m currently a 4th year Newcastle University student studying Environmental Science with a focus on Environmental Geochemistry.

My blog is called The Wrong Opinion, an ironic name given the nature of it is to dispel myth and to inform the reader on topics using the latest scientific literature. That’s my attempt at humour, I suppose. This blog will provide me with a space to write and you, the viewer, a space to read, and hopefully learn. The subjects covered by my blog posts will be focussing mainly on the climate and environment, as those are my specialties, but I will be focussing on all areas of science that interest me, along with some political and current events topics.

So, I hope this sounds of interest to you and I hope you enjoy browsing my writings and gather as much utility and enjoyment out of reading them as I gathered in writing them.

Thanks for visiting! Signed your personal myth-buster, Elliott!
